# Manage contacts in the admin

> Browse, add, edit, and delete your team's contacts, and manage tags, attributes, and segments from the Contacts page.

A **contact** is a person your team knows about, whether you added them or they signed up or bought. Contacts belong to the team, not to a single hub. The **Contacts** page in the admin lists them, lets you open and change each one, and manages the team's tags, attributes, and segments.

## Open the Contacts page

Select **Contacts** in the admin sidebar. Only the team owner can use it; anyone else sees "Only the team owner can see contacts" and "Ask the owner of this team for access." With the API, the owner can give a team member a reduced, read-only contact list through the `contacts.read` team permission; see [Letting a member read the contact directory](/guides/platform-account#not-yet). Until your team has any, the page shows **No contacts yet**: "People you add, and people who sign up or buy, show up here."

The page is titled **Contacts** and has four tabs: **Contacts**, **Tags**, **Attributes**, and **Segments**. The tab you pick is kept in the page address (`?tab=`). This guide starts with the **Contacts** tab.

## Read the list

| Column | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Contact** | The contact's name and email address. A contact without a name shows just the email. |
| **Added** | The date the contact was added. |

Rows load a page at a time, with **Load more** under the list. Select a row to open the contact panel.

## Sort the list

Select the **Contact** or **Added** column header to sort. **Contact** sorts by last name, and **Added** sorts by the date added. Select a header again to reverse the order. On a phone, where the headers are hidden, a **Sort contacts** menu offers **Default order**, **Name A to Z**, **Name Z to A**, **Newest added**, and **Oldest added**.

## Filter the list

Above the list:

* **Marketing consent** shows only contacts who have given marketing consent.
* **Email verified** shows only contacts whose email address is verified.

Each active filter appears as a chip you can remove, and you can clear them all at once. When nothing matches, the page shows **No contacts match** and suggests removing a filter.

### Find a contact by email

The **Find by exact email** box matches one complete email address. Type the whole address and press Enter. Partial addresses and names do not match, so there is no way to search by name yet. Clear the box, or remove the **Email:** chip, to see the full list again. The address is not kept in the page URL, so a copied link never contains it.

## Add, edit, and delete contacts

* **New contact** opens a dialog: "Add someone to your contacts. They are not signed up to a hub until you add them to one." It asks for **Email** (required) and, optionally, **First name**, **Last name**, **Phone**, **City**, **State or region**, and **Country**. The **Email them an invite** switch is off by default, which adds them quietly. The admin confirms with "Contact created", or says "That email is already a contact."
* **Edit** is in a row's **More options** menu, and as **Edit contact** at the bottom of the contact panel. An email is the contact's identity and cannot be changed, so the dialog says so. The admin confirms with "Contact saved".
* **Delete** is in the same two places. The dialog says the contact disappears from your contacts and segments, and their hub memberships are removed. The admin confirms with "Contact deleted" and an **Undo** action ("Restore contact (hub access isn't restored)"). Undo brings the contact back but not their hub access, so you would add them to those hubs again.

### Add or remove tags on several contacts

Point at a row and tick its checkbox to select contacts. A bar appears with **Select all**, **Add tags**, and **Remove tags**. The dialog lists your tags, and the admin applies the change contact by contact, then confirms. With no tags yet, the dialog says "No tags yet. Create one in the Tags tab."

## Open a contact

The contact panel is titled with the contact's name, with the email below it, and a badge: **Email verified** or **Email not verified**.

**Details** lists the fields that have a value: **Email**, **Phone**, **Location**, **Time zone**, **Source**, **Marketing consent** (**Given** with a date, or **Not given**), **Email verified** (a date, or **Not verified**), and **Added**.

**Tags** are labels you attach to contacts. The section lists the contact's tags, or **No tags yet.**

* To add a tag, open **Add a tag** and pick one. Only tags that already exist and are not yet on the contact are offered.
* To remove a tag, select the cross on it.

**Attributes** shows the contact's custom attribute values, labelled by attribute name, or **No attributes set.** Select **Edit** to open **Edit attributes** ("Leave a field empty to clear its answer."), set or clear any value, and save. The admin confirms with "Attributes saved".

**Sequences** has an **Enroll in sequence** button.

<Note>
Enrolling a contact in a sequence is not available in production yet. The button is disabled, and the section says "Sequence delivery is temporarily unavailable. You can keep managing drafts."
</Note>

Where delivery is available, the button opens **Enroll in a sequence**: choose one of your hubs and one of its active sequences, then **Enroll contact**. The first email may start immediately after enrollment. See [Email drips](/guides/email-drips).

## Tags tab

The **Tags** tab lists the team's tags. **New tag** asks for a **Name** and a **Slug** ("Tags group contacts. Add them by hand or from an automation."). A row's menu has **Rename**, which changes the name on every contact with that tag while its slug stays, and **Delete**, which removes the tag from every contact that has it. The contacts stay, and segments that filter on the tag need updating. Deleting cannot be undone. Only the team owner can manage tags. With none, the tab says **No tags yet**. See [Tags, attributes, activity, and segments](/guides/segments#tags) for what tags are used for.

## Attributes tab

The **Attributes** tab lists the team's contact attributes: something you ask members, such as their company or role. Each row has its name, its description, and an **Edit** button; the menu has **Delete**.

* **New attribute** asks for a **Name**, a **Description**, a **Slug**, and a **Type**: **Text**, **Number**, **Date**, **True or False**, or **Multiple Choice**. A choice attribute can allow more than one answer and has a list of options. The type cannot be changed later.
* **Edit** changes the name and description and, for a choice, its options.
* **Delete** removes the attribute from every contact, hubs stop asking for it, and its options are deleted. The contacts stay. Segments that use it need updating. Deleting cannot be undone.

Which attributes a hub asks at sign-up, shows on profiles, and lets members edit is set per hub, on the hub's [Members page](/guides/admin-members#attributes). Only the team owner can manage attributes. See [Contact attributes](/guides/segments#contact-attributes).

## Segments tab

A segment keeps itself up to date: contacts join and leave as they match its rules. The **Segments** tab lists them, with a **Paused** badge on a segment that is switched off and **Needs attention** on one whose rules point at something that was deleted. Each row has an **Active** switch, and a menu with **See who is in it**, **Edit**, and **Delete**.

* **New segment** asks for a **Name**, whether it is **Active**, and its rules. Rules are groups of conditions: a contact matches a group when it meets all of its conditions, and matches the segment when it meets any group ("Contacts who match all of these", "Or all of these"). Conditions cover who the contact is (**Country**, **Date added**, **Last seen**), what they have bought (**Billing status**, **Product**, **Plan**), what they do in a hub (**Hub membership**, **Hub logins**, **Hub searches**, **Time since joining a hub**, **Hub sign-up date**), and their **Tag**, **Achievement**, and attribute answers. The dialog shows how many contacts match right now.
* The **Needs attention** filter above the list shows only segments that need attention.
* Select a row to open the segment panel. **Overview** shows the description, how many contacts it holds, and its rules. **Members** lists the contacts in it, and selecting one opens the contact panel.
* **Delete** asks you to confirm. If access rules or achievement rules use the segment, the dialog says so ("is in use") and offers **Delete anyway**.

An inactive segment has no members. The list cannot be filtered by segment yet. See [Tags, attributes, activity, and segments](/guides/segments) to work with segments through the API.
